How to make a timelapse from selfies you already have

Turn the selfies already in your photo library into an aligned timelapse on iPhone, then keep adding new ones.

You don’t need to start from zero. Selfies from past months or years can become the beginning of your timelapse. Choose photos where you’re facing the camera, import them into Dayloop, and keep the story going with new selfies.

1. Find the photos

Open the Photos app and use search or the People & Pets album to find photos of the same person. Photos taken from a similar angle work best, so favor front-facing shots over profiles. You can also make an album first to keep things organized.

2. Import them into Dayloop

Create a sequence in Dayloop, tap Import Photos and select your pictures. Dayloop sorts them chronologically using the date saved with each photo. Screenshots and photos received through messaging apps sometimes have no date: Dayloop flags them so you can confirm the date before they’re added. Keep the app open while a large import finishes.

3. Choose how to align them

Old photos were never meant to line up, so alignment matters even more here. Pick the option that fits:

  • Face alignment for selfies and portraits. Dayloop finds the eyes and aligns every face with the first photo.
  • Manual alignment to move, zoom and rotate photos one by one.
  • No alignment if your photos were taken from a tripod.

If several people appear in a photo, Dayloop asks who to align. You can also skip that photo.

4. Keep it going

Once your past photos are in, add a new one every day with the camera. The reference photo shows the last picture as a translucent overlay so new photos match your sequence.

5. Export

Export your video at 4 or 8 photos per second. Showing dates is a nice touch when your photos span several years.

Tips

  • Remove blurry photos or ones where the face is hidden. A shorter, cleaner video looks better.
  • Mixing old and new photos is fine. Alignment smooths out the differences.
  • Your photos stay on your iPhone. Dayloop doesn’t upload them anywhere.

Your first selfie is the start.
